Tim comes from a background of private wealth management and has worked with some of the most prominent entrepreneurs and families in the US and the UK.
Between 1998 and 2003, Tim worked for Citigroup establishing the Scottish private wealth office for the American giant. In 2003, he joined UBS, the world’s leading private wealth manager, as a director focusing on Scotland and North of England. In 2005, he left banking to found Unicorn Property Group - an award winning property development business based in Dundee with a commercial and residential portfolio across the UK.
Dave Anderson
Director of City Development, City of Edinburgh Council
Dave became Director of City Development in March 2008. He has responsibility for the Planning, Transport, Economic Development and Corporate Property functions of the Council as well emergency planning and public safety, including the role of Gold Commander for Edinburgh’s Hogmanay street party and other major events.
He chairs the West Edinburgh Development Partnership Board and is also leading work at Leith Harbour to develop the first project in the UK that will use tax incremental finance (TIF) to fund local area regeneration.
Previously, Dave held a range of senior positions in the Scottish Enterprise Network working as Director of Skills Development in Ayrshire (1991-1998); Chief Executive in Dunbartonshire (1998-2006) and then leading the operations of Scottish Enterprise in Edinburgh and the Lothians (2006– 2008).
Keith Anderson
Chief Executive, Port of Leith Housing Association
Keith Anderson has worked in urban regeneration and housing development for over 30 years in Glasgow, London, Newcastle upon Tyne and Edinburgh in the public, private and independent sectors, with spells as a university lecturer and private consultant in planning and housing.
In his current role he is working to ensure that adequate affordable housing and high quality popular places are created, managed and maintained in an integrated and sustainable way within the existing communities of North Edinburgh, including the major new waterfront regeneration in Granton and Leith.
From 1999 to 2009 he was Head of Service at City of Edinburgh Council overseeing the planning and delivery of housing development and major regeneration projects, and latterly as the Edinburgh Waterfront Development Partnership Director.
Mark Barton
Marketing Manager, Clyde Waterfront Strategic Partnership
Mark has been promoting the good news story that is the Clyde's regeneration for the last three years as Marketing Manager for the Clyde Waterfront Strategic Partnership
In that time he has been particularly focused on attracting inward investors and tourists to the area, as well as redeveloping river services. Previously he has worked as Head of Marketing at NHS Health Scotland, and Marketing & Communications Manager at the Scottish Agricultural College. Prior to these roles he worked for 16 years in various marketing & sales positions for Heineken UK (Scottish & Newcastle plc).
Neil Baxter

Neil was previously principal of his own architectural and interpretation consultancy and Development Director of GBPT.
In May 2008, Neil received Glasgow’s Lord Provost’s Award for services to heritage. He has lectured on urbanism, written for The Daily Telegraph, Herald, Sunday Herald, Homes & Interiors and the AJ, and is a frequent media spokesman. He wrote The Wee Green Book, a history of Glasgow Green; co-authored Pat Lally’s Lazarus Only Done it Once; and has edited the Glasgow medieval history, A Tale of Two Towns; the monograph Matt Steele, Architect, A Biography; and A Life in Cities, the autobiography of David Mackay (MBM, Barcelona).
James Brining
Artistic Director and Chief Executive, Dundee Rep
James has been Artistic Director & Chief Executive of Dundee Rep since June 2003. James was previously Artistic Director of TAG Theatre Company where he directed over 20 productions. He has directed radio drama for BBC Radio Scotland, opera at London's South Bank Centre and large-scale outdoor community productions. He has taught and lectured at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, Queen Margaret University College and Glasgow University.
John Brown

John is a chartered surveyor and chartered town planner and has a background in planning and development surveying with a specialism in land/property sales and acquisitions. He has extensive experience in the promotion of strategic land for development has been the lead agent in land and property sales on behalf of the NHS, MOD and DEFRA as well as a wealth of private sector clients.
In addition to agency work John has provided consultancy advice on land, residential projects, planning and market assessments for a range of organisations including urban regeneration companies, local authorities and major land owners such as Moray, Hopetoun, Strathallan and Seafield Estates. Administration and receivership advice and disposals for accountants and banks is also a specialism.
John Bury
Head of Planning, City of Edinburgh Council
John is Head of Planning with the City of Edinburgh Council where he is responsible for the delivery of Edinburgh's planning and development activities. This includes taking forward development in the City’s priority areas such as the City Centre and Waterfront, the Council’s inputs to the Strategic Development Plan for South East Scotland, the delivery of Edinburgh’s Local Development Plan, area based planning activity and projects, the management of the City's built and natural environment, including its World Heritage Site and greenspace initiatives and the Council’s development management and building standards roles.
Between 1978 and 2008, John worked with Glasgow City Council, latterly as Head of Planning Services. In addition to managing the Council's Planning Service, he was responsible for leading the Council's regeneration activities on the River Clyde and in the City Centre.
Fraser Carlin

Fraser has responsibility for managing the statutory planning process and regeneration activities of what is regarded as Scotland’s most development friendly local authority. He has over 20 years experience in a number of authorities and is keen to promote planning as a facilitator for development, recognising that the regeneration of key locations provides benefits that spread across all sectors of industry and community.
He has been involved in the regeneration process at Renfrew Riverside throughout his career and has seen its transformation from a post industrial wasteland into a key economic driver for the West of Scotland.
Councillor Jenny Dawe
Leader, City of Edinburgh Council
Jenny was elected as Edinburgh City Councillor for the Liberal Democrats in October 1997 and Leader of Lib Dem Group in 1999. The Lib Dem Group became the largest political group on City of Edinburgh Council at the May 2007 election and she was elected Leader of City of Edinburgh Council on 24 May 2007.
She joined the Liberal Party in 1961 and held various offices within local parties, and edited ‘Clifton Terrace Focus’ from Edition 1 in October 1993 to November 1997. Her other local authority appointments include: Admin & Information Officer, Lothian Community Relations Council (1988-90); Welfare Rights Officer, Lothian Regional Council (1990-96); and Senior Welfare Rights Officer, Welfare Rights Team, East Lothian Council (1996-2007).
John Dunn

John has 22 years experience in commercial real estate and has been a director with AWG Property for over 11 years. He is mainly responsible for identifying and securing development and investment opportunities throughout all commercial property sectors, embracing site acquisition, delivery of tenants, and sale on completion.
Key recent development projects include the regeneration of Cambuslang Town Centre, Excelsior Park Wishaw Laundry, Asda at Forfar and is currently developing a 100,000ft2 mixed use development at Airdrie town centre with occupiers earmarked for all the space. including Scotland’s the largest health centre for the NHS. He is also active in property investment and recent deals include include Exchange House and Berkeley House in Glasgow.
Mike Edward

Mike has over 40 years of property and housebuilding experience in the private and public sectors and has worked for over 20 years with Walker Group (Scotland) Ltd.
He has a wide and varied role which encompasses procuring land and buildings for commercial and residential developments, and bringing forward mixed use projects and trading in residential land. The 120 acre Lomondgate Mixed Development Project at Dumbarton is currently one of his major initiatives and he previously worked closely with the Clyde Corridor Stakeholders and Partners whilst assembling and delivering an extremely successful 80,000 ft2 office development at 200 Broomielaw in the heart of Glasgow.
The Walker Group is a privately owned family run property company established in 1969 by Mike Walker, the current Chairman, and has delivered a wide range of commercial and mixed use projects in it’s own right and through joint ventures with public and private partners.
Dr Robert East
Offshore Development Manager, Seagreen Wind Energy
“Dr. Robert East is an Energy professional with over 20 years of experience in oil and gas and renewables. He graduated from Imperial College London with a PhD in Earth Sciences in 1988 and spent the next 12 years working for Shell International E&P in The Netherlands. In 1999 he moved into the rapidly expanding renewables sector and spent the next 10 years working for AMEC developing onshore and offshore wind farms around the UK. In 2009 he joined SSE as its lead offshore wind development manager for Scotland. He is presently General Manager of Seagreen Wind Energy, a joint venture between SSE and Fluor which is responsible for developing Scotland’s largest single renewable energy project, 3.5 GW of offshore wind in the outer Firth of Forth. “
Jim Fitzsimons
Chief Executive, Capella Group
Jim set up the Capella Group in 2008, following the acquisition of Wilson Bowden, for whom he ran the Scottish office, by Barratt Developments. Capella owns the Atlantic Square site in the Broomielaw and has consent for 225,000 ft2 of offices and a 150 bed hotel. The company is also currently bringing forward the Broomielaw Quay scheme, a 30,000 ft2 leisure development in partnership with GCC.
The company continues to manage Barratt’s commercial property interests in Scotland, including the 1,100 acre Ravenscraig site, and Gateway Glasgow, an industrial and commercial development in Cambuslang.
While at Wilson Bowden, Jim brought forward and developed 4 large grade A office buildings in Glasgow City Centre over the last 10 years, including Equinox and Capella in York Street. Prior to joining WBD in 1998, Jim worked for Cardiff Bay Development Corporation on the £1bn re-development of the city’s waterfront.
Mike Galloway OBE

Mike took up his current position in 2009, having previously been Director of Planning & Transportation at Dundee City Council.
Prior to that he was Director, Crown Street Regeneration Project, Glasgow (1991-97); Assistant Chief Planning Officer, Glasgow City Council (1989-91); Principal Planning Officer, Manchester City Council (1988-89); and Principal Planning Officer, London Borough of Lewisham (1984-88).
His project responsibilities have included Merchant City, Glasgow; Castlefields, Manchester; Crown Street, Glasgow Gorbals; Deptford Waterfront; Stornoway Waterfront; Stobswell Regeneration, Dundee; and Dundee Waterfront.
Councillor Archie Graham
Deputy Leader and Executive Member for the Commonwealth Games, Glasgow City Council
Councillor Archie Graham was born and lives in Glasgow and was elected to Glasgow City Council in 1995. Previous GCC responsibilities include time as Vice Convener for Equalities and Cultural & Leisure Services, and Council Spokesperson on Asylum issues and Social Care.
He has a degree and MSc (Distinction) in Social Sciences and went to university at the age of 32 after working in the construction industry for 15 years, having left school at 16.
Charles Hammond

Charles Hammond has been CEO of Forth Ports Limited (previously Forth Ports PLC) since 2001 and actively involved in the ports industry for over 20 years, and is also Chairman of The United Kingdom Major Ports Group and a member of The Scottish Energy Advisory Board.
Forth Ports owns and operates several ports on the east coast of Scotland and also London’s major port, The Port of Tilbury. It provides integrated handling and distribution services and solutions to a wide variety of customers through its ports. It has also diversified into waste recycling and renewable energy through a process of acquisition and joint venture. These businesses also provide benefits for the ports businesses. It is also a significant land owner within the Edinburgh and Dundee waterfronts, seeking to facilitate regeneration there.
Jim Hart, Business Manager
Edinburgh Centre for Climate Change
For the last few months Jim has been employed as a Business Manager for the ECCC, and works out of the Institute for Sustainable Construction at Edinburgh Napier University. As part of the ECCC’s business innovation team, he develops links between the universities and businesses – especially Scottish SMEs – in order to help them overcome the various barriers to innovative low carbon products and services.
Jim has more than 10 years of experience as an environmental and sustainability consultant, employed by companies at opposite ends of the spectrum for scale (i.e. a micro-SME and a global multidisciplinary consultancy). In these roles, he has provided strategic and design advice in a wide range of inter-related areas including resource efficiency; renewable energy, waste, sustainable buildings (including BREEAM assessments), and carbon accounting and management.
David Hastings
Chief Executive, Strathleven Regeneration C.I.C.
Strathleven Regeneration is a special purpose vehicle created to facilitate delivery of the £120 million Lomondgate development following closure of the J&B whisky bottling plant at Dumbarton.
Immediately prior to his current role, David was Director of Investment & Regeneration at Glasgow Housing Association. His career in economic development and regeneration has included consultancy and senior positions in Scottish Enterprise/Scottish Development Agency, Isle of Bute Housing Association and Port of Leith Housing Association. David is a member of the British Waterways Scotland advisory group.
Charlie Hughes
Chairman of Smart Futures, Chairman of the European Urban Regeneration Council of the Urban Land Institute.
Charlie is Chairman of Smart Futures, an international consultancy specialising in sustainable development and urban regeneration advisory services for governmental, municipal, multinational corporate and private investor/developer clients. His key interest is in competitive sustainable cities, and the political, policy and investment drivers which support them.
His numerous roles include: Development manager for Prudential on one of the largest projects in the UK for a new sustainable urban community in the south of England for 10,000 homes, employment, education, health, community and other related facilities; Member of the Scientific Panel for Expo Italia Real Estate (EIRE); Chairman of the European Urban Regeneration Council of the Urban Land Institute. In addition, he is a Visiting Professor at the Sorbonne in Paris and Abu Dhabi and from 2007-2009, he was Spatial Planning and Sustainable Development Advisor to the Government of Montenegro; and he has been responsible for leading major urban regeneration projects in Italy, Greece, France, Serbia, Russia and throughout the UK.
François Jalinot
CEO, Euroméditerranée
François was appointed by ministerial decree on 13 June 2004 as CEO of the state planning and development agency Euroméditerranée, now considered among the largest city-center urban renewal project (480 ha) in Europe and in the Mediterranean. Its main goal is to build a standard model for sustainable development in the Mediterranean region.
He joined Euroméditerranée in 1997 to create and run the Department of Urban Real Estate and Economic Development and since his appointment as CEO, his mission is to consolidate the metropolitan development of Marseille and the diversification of its economy towards the tertiary sector through the construction of nearly 1 million square meters of new housing supply and 300,000 m2 of cultural and commercial facilities to be achieved mainly by 2013 year or Marseilles European Capital of Culture. After graduating from Ecole Supérieure de Commerce de Lyon in 1974, François began his career in the international hotel sector.
Philip Long
Director, V&A at Dundee
Philip is the first Director of the V&A at Dundee, a groundbreaking project to establish an international centre for design on the banks of the River Tay.
From 1998 until taking up his position at the V&A at Dundee, Philip was Senior Curator of the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art. From 2008 he also led the National Galleries of Scotland’s Artist Rooms project. From 2003-10 he served on the Scottish Arts Lottery Committee and in 2007 was invited to curate Scotland’s national representation at the Venice Biennale. Most recently, he worked with the artist Antony Gormley to develop a major public artwork installed across Edinburgh.
David Mackay
Partner of Martorell Bohigas Mackay Arquitectes, Barcelona
David has been practising architecture for over 50 years in Barcelona with his partners in MBM Arquitectes. The team is probably best known for the urban design of the Barcelona Olympic Village and Port in 1992. Since then they have worked in over 60 European cities with urban designs or repairing cities, and occasional buildings. Waterfront cities have been almost a specialised part of the practice having 26 projects in 9 different countries.
He has been member of the Senate Advisory Committee for the unification of Berlin and he was advisor to the Dublin City Council, and has chaired the Plymouth Design Panel for four years. He is also Hon. Fellow of the RIAS. He has written several books, the latest is his illustrated memoirs Life and Cities published by RIAS.
Councillor Gordon Matheson
Leader of Glasgow City Council
Councillor Matheson was elected Leader of the Council on 10 May 2010 having and was appointed City Treasurer in 2009. He joined Glasgow City Council in May 1999 as the elected Councillor representing Merchant City ward. During his first term, he was the Council's spokesperson on Community Councils.
In May 2005, Councillor Matheson was elected to the Executive of the administration Labour Group, and was appointed Vice Convener of the Education Services Committee. In 2007, Councillor Matheson was re-elected for a third consecutive term, this time for the re-organised Anderston/City ward. He was appointed Executive Member for Education and Social Renewal, and joined the Court of University of Strathclyde. After re-election in May 2003, he was appointed a Bailie of the City and a Justice of the Peace and appointed convener of Central Area Committee and a member of Strathclyde Joint Police Board.
Eleanor McAllister OBE
Managing Director Clydebank re-built
Eleanor is an economist and a town planner and has worked for over 20 years in the west of Scotland developing and implementing regeneration projects.
She was Director of the Glasgow Building’s Preservation Trust in the 80’s and continued the capital works activity in Local Government for the next 15 years including three years as Depute Director of the Glasgow 1999 Festival Company which delivered the programme of events for Glasgow as the UK City of Architecture and Design.
In June 2002, Eleanor became the MD of Clydebank re-built and is responsible for the masterplanning and development of 450 acres of brownfield and industrial riverside and the existing commercial areas in Clydebank’s Town centre. The Clydebank Plan (2003-2016) will involve capital investment of £400m and the creation of 1200 new jobs, 2000 new homes, a new College Campus, a quarter of a million ft2 of new business space and the restoration of the ‘A’ listed giant cantilever Titan Crane, the last relic of the shipbuilding industry in Clydebank. The overarching objective is to use design and heritage as core themes in the regeneration process in Clydebank.
Derek McCrindle
Director of Partnerships, Business Infrastructure, Scottish Enterprise
A chartered surveyor with over 26 years in the property industry, Derek manages a team comprising various property disciplines dealing with a range of projects throughout Scotland. He manages SE interest in public private partnerships across Scotland such as the four west of Scotland urban regeneration companies and Edinburgh International.
Derek chairs the Clyde Waterfront Partnership delivery board, and his team are currently involved in developing the Clyde Waterfront Initiative which includes projects which aim to develop the key sectors along the waterfront such as Financial services at the Broomielaw, Digital Media at Pacific Quay, and SE contributions towards tourism projects such as the SECC where the new 12,500 seat arena will shortly begin construction.
Jim McFarlane

Over a 30 year career with Scottish Enterprise (SE) and its predecessor, the Scottish development Agency (SDA), Jim McFarlane has become one of Scotland’s foremost economic development practitioners. At SDA he led the Leith Project which began Edinburgh’s waterfront regeneration and later was Director of Operations for the Glasgow Garden Festival. As CEO of SE Edinburgh & Lothains, he led SE project teams that established the Edinburgh International Conference Centre, the Exchange Financial District, Our Dynamic Earth, the Edinburgh Festival Theatre and in conjunction with the University of Edinburgh, the Edinburgh Bio Quarter and the School of Informatics Commercialisation Programme (Prospekt).

Niall McGilp

Niall has been with Goodman since November 2006, following Goodman’s £649 million acquisition of the Akeler Group of Companies, which was one of the UK’s major business park developers. Goodman is a substantial global property group, listed on the Australian Stock Exchange. The company expanded into Europe in 2005 where it now operates over 30 business parks across the UK and Continental Europe, as well as a number of large scale logistics developments. Goodman operates in over 20 countries worldwide.
He As Regional Development Director, Niall is responsible for Goodman’s projects in Scotland and the North of England, such as Glasgow Central Quay, as well as Aberdeen (new BP North Sea HQ), Edinburgh, Paisley and Sunderland.
Prior to joining Goodman, Niall was with London-based Akeler for four years as Director of Development Partnerships with responsibility for Akeler’s public/ private sector partnership projects, and for managing the company’s Build to Suit Programme, which delivered bespoke property solutions for Akeler’s corporate customers. Before that, he worked in economic development and regeneration, where he held a number of senior posts.
Tom McInally
Managing Director, McInally Associates
Tom is one of the most experienced town planners in Scotland and has been engaged in town planning since he joined Glasgow Corporation in 1966. Ten of his 21 years with the city were spent promoting local plans and implementing the GEAR project.
He formed McInally Associates in 1990 and has been involved in some of Scotland’s key development and regeneration projects, including Glasgow Harbour, Heartlands, West Lothian, Ardrossan Harbour, James Watt Dock, Greenock and the Central Govan Action Plan. Tom is a Director of GBPT and in 2002 joined the Board of Advisors to the Waterfront Center, Washington DC, USA. He is a Fellow of the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland.

Lesley Riddoch

Lesley is one of Scotland’s best known commentators and broadcasters. She has held many influential positions including assistant editor of The Scotsman and contributing editor of The Sunday Herald. She is perhaps best known for her broadcasting with programmes on Radio 4, BBC Radio 2 and BBC Radio Scotland, for which she has won two Sony speech broadcaster awards.
Ric Russell OBE
Partner, Nicoll Russell Studios
Professor Ric Russell, the founding partner of Dundee's well-known architecture practice, Nicoll Russell Studios, was awarded an OBE in 2005 for services to architecture. Ric has built up a highly regarded portfolio of work in Tayside and beyond. Beyond his work in the practice Ric has made a significant impact on Scottish architecture through his teaching, work at the former RFACS and now at Architecture Design Scotland, participation in awards committees and his presence and foresight across a raft of other activities. He has a deep and intimate knowledge of development in Dundee.
Go Shinohara
Member of the Yokohama City Assembly
Since 2011, Go has been a member of the Yokohama City Assembly. The City Council is composed of members (four-year term) directly elected by the 3.7 million citizens.
He is the youngest representative of Kanazawa Ward and is a member of the Committee on Economic/Port & Harbour affairs and also a member of the Special Committee on International and Cultural City.
From 2006 to 2010, he was a political journalist, working on the personal staff of Mr. Shigetada Kishii, who is now the chief editor of Mainichi Newspapers. From 2004 to 2005, he was a deputy editor of British Lifestyle Magazine for Japanese and, from 2001 to 2004, a creative director of Ryugaku-Journal Ltd. Prior to that he was editor of Lifestyle Magazine (1996 to 2000) and, in 2001, he joined the certificate program of California University of San Diego as a student in web publishing.
Allan Watt

Allan is Chair of the Dundee Waterfront Masterplan Group as well as being Project Co-ordinator.
A Dundonian by birth he has worked in a wide range of posts concerned with regeneration, policy and infrastructure with Scottish Enterprise, the University of Dundee, Cosla, Scottish Natural Heritage, Tayside Regional Council and Dundee District Council.
Michelle Woods
Project Manager, Chicago Department of Transportation Division of Engineering
Michelle has more than 17 years of experience in municipal government. As Project Coordinator for the Wacker Drive Reconstruction project, she will work directly with the impacted communities to minimize disruption of construction and act as a liaison between the buildings and the construction team.
In addition, Michelle oversees funding, budgeting, planning and construction aspects of large scale bridge and infrastructure projects, including the $5 million Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial located along historic Wacker Drive between Wabash and State. In 2009, she was responsible for $40 million in projects in construction: the Solidarity Drive lakefront trail underpass within the City’s Museum campus and the Riverwalk at both Michigan and Wabash. She is continuing the design for the remainder of Chicago Riverwalk which will eventually allow for uninterrupted access along the Chicago River all the way to Lake Street. She is the point person for CDOT on River related issues and works with other government agencies to ensure the most appropriate future planning and preservation of Chicago’s Second Shore.
