Regrouping costal development for ecological preservation and development synergy in Porto Cristovao, Brazil

ABSTRACT

Porto Cristovao

Porto Cristovao is a newly masterplanned settlement designed on 2000 ha along the Atlantic coast in the state of Sergipe in Brazil. The project is part of the strategic element of the preservation of the Sergipean natural coastline which assumes concentration of new investments to prevent uncontrolled resort sprawl across the coast.

Porto Cristovao’s mixed-use community provides an array of lifestyle opportunities. Unlike other popular resort investments it is a year round place where people live, work and enjoy life at their own place. A variety of accommodations varying from private villas with gardens to high class condominiums and hotels are complemented by “everyday life” facilities - schools, kindergartens and hospitals as well as shops, offices and a variety of leisure options like cinemas, various restaurants and night clubs, all located along the main promenade.

A newly designed water village that comprises elegant private villas along the canals is located at the mouth of the Vasa Barris river, where it meets the waters of Atlantic. This area of Porto Cristovao is inspired by the tradition of villages for fishermen along the canal, as well as by notable Mediterranean and Gulf resort communities. The community with its entire leisure and relaxation palette including golf courses, tennis club, elegant spa resorts and beauty clinic will be a popular holiday destination for Brazilians as well as foreign tourists. To further promote a healthy lifestyle the community streets will combine networks of bicycle paths and equestrian
