MONDAY 3 NOVEMBER

Morning guided walk of Albert Dock
For delegates and partners
10.00 – 11.00


Situated in the largest group of Grade I listed buildings in the UK and adjacent to the conference venue, the Albert Dock houses many award winning visitor attractions. This informal opening to WaterfrontExpo 2008 provides the perfect opportunity to learn about the International Slavery Museum, the famous Beatles Story, the Tate Liverpool art gallery and other points of interest in the dock. Other landmarks will also be pointed out.

There's no better way to experience Liverpool and Merseyside – and get ready for the Welcome reception - than from the deck of the world famous Mersey Ferry. You'll learn about the city and the region's fascinating history, see its spectacular sights and discover its unique character.

TUESDAY 4 NOVEMBER

New Brighton
11.00 – 13.00


New Brighton is a seaside resort located on the north east tip of the Wirral Peninsula opposite Liverpool and the tour starts with a trip through one of the famous Mersey Tunnels. In the late 19th century New Brighton became a popular seaside resort serving Liverpool and the Lancashire industrial towns, but after World War II its popularity slumped. Now plans are afoot to redevelop the waterfront in a sustainable and exciting manner.

Liverpool Docks & Seaforth Container Terminal
11.00 – 13.00


Liverpool dominates Britain's container trade with North America and serves more than 100 other non-EU destinations from China to India, Africa, Australia, the Middle East and South America. This tour takes in key areas including the Seaforth container facility and delegates will be able to disembark from the coach and view the site of the new post-Panamax container terminal. This will be completed in 2011 and will simultaneously accommodate two of the new generation post-Panamax container ships.

WEDNESDAY 5 NOVEMBER

Pier Head/Mann Island
13.00 – 14.30


This tour takes in the UNESCO World Heritage Site which comprises the iconic 3 Graces - the Port of Liverpool Building in Portland stone designed by Arnold Thornley in 1907, the Cunard Building named after the Canadian shipping magnate Samuel Cunard, and the granite Royal Liver Building by W.A. Thomas. Mann Island, next to the 3 Graces, is home to the new Museum of Liverpool, the striking mixed-use development by the architects Broadway Malyan; the new Leeds Liverpool Canal basin; and the redeveloped Pier Head.

Liverpool One
13.00 – 14.30


This is a walking tour of Liverpool One, the fabulous new shopping and leisure district which has recently opened on the waterfront near the heart of the city centre. The size of 28 full-size football pitches it includes 160 new shops, cafes and restaurants overlooking the stunning Chavasse Park, two new hotels, a 14-screen Odeon cinema and more than 600 stylish apartments.
